The reservoir of the largest plant in the world in power generation now also part of the of the Itaipu Tourist Complex . The Kattamaram boat, with capacity for 200 people, makes daily tours of the lake, bordering the imposing barrier of the plant and revealing the charms of Lake Itaipu.

The tour, which lasts an hour, takes as its point of departure the Porto Kattamaram, a space built especially for attractiveness, with its pier, deck and a restaurant overlooking the reservoir. The port is now part of the Panoramic Tour itinerary, the most sought after by tourists.

The manager of the Itaipu Tourist Complex  , Jurema Fernandes, said that despite the little attention so far, the boat ride has raised a lot of interest from visitors. "They are surprised and many regret that they did not come prepared for it," she says. Some are already making reservations to come back to the city.

As it is recent - the service started on Saturday, 21st - travel agencies are still adjusting to offer the tour, which increases by at least an hour time visiting the plant.

Jurema says that the demand is going to increase greatly after the World Cup. In the current state, Brazilians travel to the cities that host games or prefer to watch the games at home, while foreigners usually leave to visit other destinations only after the end of the World Cup, as has happened in other countries that hosted the World Cup.

The tours

The new attraction Itaipu Tourist Complex  is open daily, with four departure times a day: 11am, 12.30pm, 3pm and 5pm. On Friday and Saturday nights we offer the option of a dinner aboard the Kattamaram, with an itinerary that includes the Iluminação da Barragem. In this case, it leaves the port at 9.30pm.

With the new tour, the Panoramic tour was changed, gaining more time schedule options, leaving every half hour, and one more point to stop: Porto Kattamaram. There, visitors can enjoy all of its infrastructure and optionally make the boat ride.

Downtime in Porto Kattamaram is free. To return to the CSRC, the visitor must wait for the next bus (which will pass every half hour). With that, the duration of the tour is at the discretion of the visitor or tourist agency. The new duration of the Panoramic Tour (including the movie) will be of at least two and a half hours.
