Itaipu has the mission to deliver the energy produced at the plant to connection points with the Interconnected System. On the Brazilian side is located the Foz do Iguaçu substation, owned by Furnas, that transmits the energy to consumption centers, working together with COPEL. At the Paraguayan side, the connection is made at the Margem Direita substation, situated at Itaipu area. In Brazil, the coordination and control of the electric system is a responsibility of ONS (National System Operator, in Portuguese), and in Paraguay, the responsibility is of Ande (National Electric Administration, in Spanish).
