Inflow forecasts
Font Size

The forecasting of inflows consists of predicting the future volume of water due to arrive in the Itaipu reservoir and points downstream of the power plant. This forecast employs the hydrological and meteorological data collected and mathematical models simulating the functioning of the areas and rivers of interest, producing the volumes expected for the following days.

At present, the river level and flow forecast models used at Itaipu are calibrated, upstream of the dam, for the area situated between the power plants of Rosanna and Porto Primavera and Itaipu and, downstream, for the area between the power plants of Itaipu and Caxias and the Carlos Antonio Lopez station, located in the Paraná River 120 km ahead of Itaipu.
