Auscultation
Tamanho da letra

Auscultation is a set of procedures that monitor dam and foundations behavior, control its safety conditions, prove the validity of hypotheses and calculation methods used in the project, and check the need for corrective measures.

This type of work considers the data supplied by instruments in addition to inspections and observations carried out by Itaipu dam safety teams and the Concrete Technology Lab staff.

The Itaipu dam auscultation project seeks to ensure the safety of the dam with cost efficiency, easy instrument installation and maintenance. The blocks with a higher number of instruments, called key blocks, were selected based on height, position, type, representation of a section, and foundation.

The original Itaipu project adopted the criterion of peripheral instrument reading instead of a centralized automatic reading because the peripheral reading forces technicians to routinely visit the entire dam, thus ensuring the structures, foundations and instruments themselves are watched.
