Scholarship Program

Itaipu helps provide a better future for nearly 650 low-income grammar and high school students in Foz do Iguaçu.

The Scholarship program developed in collaboration with the Village C Community Council (Conselho Comunitário da Vila C) pays a weekly benefit in the amount of R$ 75 to 300 families in an effort to ensure that children and teenagers from 6 to 16 years-old attend school on a regular basis.

The payment of benefits is conditional on the presentation of children's school attendance reports. If students have two unjustified absences, mothers stop receiving the benefit.

If the absences occur for two consecutive months, the family is removed from the program and another one is registered in its place. The families benefited live in Village C, one of the poorest areas in the city.

As of 2007, program development and result control will be performed by the Village C Community Council itself, in collaboration with Itaipu.

Also in 2007, the program will start offering school tutoring with classes given by high school students.
