Hydrometeorological stations

The collection of data that guide the forecast, supervision and control processes of Itaipu's hydro-energy operations takes place at hydrological, river and rainfall level gauging, and meteorological stations.

Part of the data is obtained via automatic stations that read the information from sensors and relay them to the power plant by satellite and the internet. That model is called Hydrometeorological Telemetry System (HTS), with 40 stations.

The remaining information is obtained from station staff via telephone or radio.

Itaipu also uses data from meteorological systems, like satellite images, radar images and electrical discharge location, by means of agreements with the Paraná Meteorological System (Simepar) and the Dirección Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil (Dinac).
