The hydro-meteorological supervision is entrusted to the Division of Hydrological and Energy Studies of the Superintendence of Operation, which is responsible for monitoring the areas and rivers of interest to Itaipu, in terms of rainfall, stream flow, and water level to verify if the inflow forecast is being fulfilled.

In case a significant deviation is verified between the forecast and what is really occurring, new forecasts are made and the operation of the power plant is adjusted to correspond to the new circumstances.

The bulletins issued by Itaipu are of enormous importance to the warning systems of different governmental agencies that employ them to gauge the possible effects of high river levels on inhabited zones close to the power plant.
